In Him Was Life

“In him was life, and the life was the light of men.” -John 1:4

Thank God who abundantly blessed the HBF Fall Retreat, “In Him Was Life,” on Oct. 21, with 23 attendants. Thank God for Kibwe, who brought his two friends, Felix and Valentina, who have been coming to HBF this Fall. We were blessed with a very gracious message from Willy on John 1:4, sharing how God brought him out of the darkness after breaking up with a girlfriend in high school, restored his life as a student, and revealed his glory through Willy’s life of faith. Also, Sammy Shin shared a beautiful testimony of how he accepted Jesus newly and repented of his sins honestly, living in the light. And, Tess shared her testimony of how she overcame her own struggles with the darkness in her high school to live in Jesus’ light and have his life. Thank God for these precious young people’s lives of faith.

Evangelical meeting at the center basement — prayer by Steven Lee

After the meeting in the basement, HBF members packed a sandwich, fruit, and chips and drove one hour to the picturesque Lockport to Legacy Adventure Park, which is situated on 66 gorgeous acres of beautiful Illinois countryside. The weather was perfect, and we enjoyed a picnic lunch. Then, we went paintballing in a fake construction site and a fake cemetery. It was the end of the quarter in CPS, and students had time to relieve their stress by running on the playing field, shooting paintballs, hiding, and killing the enemy! It was so much fun!

We returned to the center and cleaned the center entirely. After preparing the church for worship service the next day, HBF enjoyed fellowship at McDonald’s. It was a very blessed Fall retreat! Thank you for everyone’s prayers, support, and sacrifices (Andy gave up his tennis tournament in Indiana to attend, Andrew drove on his own from his volleyball tournament and helped drive members home, and the Lees supplemented the costs of playing paintball). We thank God especially for revealing his light and life through his precious Son Jesus coming into our weary worlds and restoring us for his glory!!
