OVERVIEW
Haggai 1:1–15 challenges God’s people to examine their priorities and return the LORD’s work to the center of their lives. Though the Jews had returned to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple, they became focused on their own comfortable houses while the LORD’s house remained in ruins. Through Haggai, God told them to “consider your ways,” showing that their labor was unfruitful because they had neglected Him. God commanded them to build His house so He might take pleasure in it and be glorified. When Zerubbabel, Joshua, and all the people obeyed and feared the LORD, God blessed them with His presence, saying, “I am with you,” and stirred their hearts to work together. This passage teaches that true blessing comes when God and His work become our first priority.
