OVERVIEW

Haggai 2 encourages God's people by showing that although they were weak, discouraged, and spiritually unclean, God had not abandoned them. The LORD promised that the rebuilt temple would one day have greater glory than Solomon’s temple and become a place of true peace through the coming of Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory and Prince of Peace. God reminded the people that their uncleanness and past disobedience had brought hardship, yet in His mercy He declared, “From this day on I will bless you,” revealing that blessing comes by His grace, not human merit. Through the promise given to Zerubbabel, God's chosen signet ring, the chapter points forward to the Messiah, Jesus Christ, through whom God fulfills His promises, cleanses sinners, and establishes His unshakable kingdom.
